In a world of nepotism, Apple Martin could have easily stepped right into the spotlight, but she’s choosing her path—one that involves both the library and the stage. The 20-year-old daughter of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and Oscar-winning actress-turned-Goop mogul Gwyneth Paltrow is currently a junior in college.
Apple, who booked her first modeling job at age two, is a student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, studying law, history, and society. But when she’s not buried in books, Apple's channeling her parent's artistic energy, performing with the school’s cabaret theater group.
“Oh my god, so—I’m in the lovely Vanderbilt Original Cast, the esteemed cabaret theater group,” she told Interview Magazine. She’s having a blast, too. “This semester’s show is a musical parody of Love Island called Love on an Island. It’s so fun. The songs are phenomenal," Apple said.
The young woman grew up surrounded by music and culture— her dad has written some of the most epic songs of the 21st century, and her mom has been gracing screens since the '90s.
While she is set on getting her degree, she has a passion for theater. “I would love to do theater because I adore it so much,” she admitted. “I’ve obviously never done a film before, but I’ve been trying to get involved in student films. I was born a theater kid.”
And yes, she can sing. “I have a very low voice, so whenever we’re doing harmonies, it’ll be like, ‘Alright, it’s the boys and Apple,’” she joked. “I’m singing my absolute favorite song ever this semester, which I’m so excited about. I’m definitely not the best in the org, but I love it.”
It's no secret that the world is a scary place right now, and Apple shared some insight into what it's like being a college student. “It’s a little tense, but also people want to have fun,” she said. “People, including myself, are very scared, but that also means that everyone’s coming together and talking about what’s going on.”
Still, she’s making the most of her time: “The vibe when I’m with my friends is so fun—that’s the most important thing to me right now, just hanging out with them. I went bowling. That was a great time.”
Gwnyeth Paltrow shows Apple some love
Paltrow showed support for her daughter's interview on social media, leaving three heart emojis in the comments of Interview Magazine's Instagram post sharing photos from the shoot.
So, will she end up following in her parents' footsteps? Maybe. But for now, she’s content juggling her studies, the stage, and making the most of her college experience. And while she could easily become an influencer, she enjoys her privacy on social media, and her Instagram is private, with less than 2k followers.
