Shakira had an unexpected guest at her fourth show in Mexico City. The Colombian singer has seven sold-out shows in the city and has been performing some of her greatest hits with Mexican twists, supported by Mariachis and regional Mexican performers like Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera.
In her most recent show, Shakira sang "El Jefe," her collaboration with Fuerza Regida. She also brought out Lili Melgar, her sons' nanny. Melgar's appearance is a direct jab at Gerard Pique, who, according to the song's lyrics, still owes Melgar's compensation following the rupture of his relationship with Shakira.
Melgar's appearance took place mid-song, with her walking out onstage amidst the dancers.
Audience members were able to pinpoint her appearance onstage, screaming at the top of their lungs once Shakira said her name out loud. She wore an outfit made out of dark jeans and a button-up shirt, accessorized with a cowboy hat.
"Tell the truth, you still haven't been paid for your compensation," sang Shakira as the cameras zoomed in on Melgar, who shrugged and smiled, and then joined in on the dance.
What happened between Melgar and Pique?
According to the journalist Lorena Vasquez, following Shakira and Pique's split, Melgar was given the choice to stay in Spain or to leave for Miami with Shakira and start a new life there. Melgar opted for the latter choice, but requested compensation for her years of work in Barcelona.
The journalist alleges that Pique's legal team said that Melgar wasn't owed any compensation since that was unrelated to the work she was hired to do, which was caring for Sasha and Milan.
Other unconfirmed theories claim that Pique and Melgar's rift occurred after she informed Shakira of his infidelity with Clara Chia, kickstarting the fallout of their relationship.
