Gwyneth Paltrow’s latest Instagram video has fans running to the comments, convinced she is poking fun at Meghan Markle’s new cooking show, With Love, Meghan.
While fresh-faced and dressed in her pajamas, Paltrow filmed herself cooking a breakfast of biscuits, eggs, and bacon in her kitchen over the song, “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” by Natalie Cole. Her followers immediately noticed that it's the same track used in Markle's promo videos, which is just one of the reasons her supporters are making the comparison.
“Lol isn’t it this the song they keep using in the Meghan Markle promo?” one user commented. Another added, “Would you be a dove and pop by Meghan’s place to show her how it’s done?"
Since it's release earlier this month, Markle’s show has gotten harsh reviews from critics, with a lot of viewers complaining that the show seems "forced." But, despite rumors that she's poking fun at the former royal, Paltrow defended Markle earlier this month in her Vanity Fair cover story.
“I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes,” she told the outlet in March. “I think there’s always more than enough to go around.”
With Love, Meghan, has been compared to many other shows by fans, including Pamela Anderson’s lifestyle show as well as Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop brand. While giving her take on Markle’s show, the former Marvel star admits that while she’s “met Meghan, who seems really lovely,” she doesn’t “know her at all.”
In her Vanity Fair interview, Paltrow opened up further about Meghan's lifestyle program, which has been compared to Goop for its health and wellness focus. While the brands definitely operate in similar spaces, Paltrow said when “there’s noise about certain women in the culture, I do have, always, a strong instinct to stand up for them."
Paltrow’s celebrity status has definitely helped elevate her brand, but according to the actress, it’s not all positive. She noted that negative coverage of her as a celebrity “can impact sales.”
“It used to be, ‘We can take shots at these models or movie stars ’cause it’s fun to read,’” she said, but “if it’s not true and you’re creating a negative perception about any one of our businesses, what’s your responsibility there? It’s different than just saying, ‘Look at this gross picture of Gwyneth on a beach on vacation.’”
