When Millie Bobby Brown, the powerhouse behind "Stranger Things," and Jake Bongiovi, son of rock legend Jon Bon Jovi, tied the knot in May 2024, some eyebrows might have raised at their youthful ages—20 and 22, respectively. But as Millie recently dished on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, their decision to say "I do" was anything but hasty.
Millie and Jake's love story began in 2021, and over four years, they built a life together that many dream of. Moving in together was a significant milestone, but it was their shared responsibilities, like co-parenting their beloved dogs, that deepened their bond. "We had dogs together, and we were taking care of our animals, and we started living this day-to-day life."
As Millie recounted, living the day-to-day together made her realize she couldn't envision a future without Jake. She told Alex Cooper, "I really don't think I could ever see you as anything else. I don't want to be with anyone else ever again."
Deep Conversations and Aligned Futures
Beyond the cuddles with their furry friends, the profound conversations about life, politics, and future family plans cemented their connection. "When we started talking about politics and how we want to raise our kids … we started talking about really, really big things that I'd obviously never spoken about, and I'm already very young, so I've never spoken about that with boys anyway," the star told Cooper.
Discussing topics she'd never broached with anyone else, Millie found herself thinking, "But to be able to even think about those things, I was like, 'S---. Okay, maybe I do want to be with him forever.'"
Role Models in Young Love
Both Millie and Jake come from families where young love blossomed into lasting marriages. Jake's parents, Jon and Dorothea, are high school sweethearts, while Millie's folks met at 19 and have been together since. Having such stellar examples set the stage for their journey. Millie reflected, "We had great role models growing up, so we didn't see any difference."
The Proposal: When Everything Aligned
While marriage was a topic of discussion, the actual proposal was a surprise for Millie. She recalled that when Jake popped the question, "everything aligned," which made sense.
Marrying young isn't the norm for everyone, and Millie acknowledges the external chatter. However, she remains unfazed, emphasizing that their shared values and deep connection make their relationship rock-solid.
In a Vanity Fair interview, she expressed confidence in their unity, highlighting their discussions about political views, the kind of family they want to build, and the careers they aspire to. She stated, "It's such an important decision, and we wanted to make sure we were making the right one."
