Manolo Gonzalez Vergara is opening up about his mom's cooking skills. Sofia Vergara and her son are known for having a close relationship, with the Hollywood star detailing her motherhood journey as a young mom while starting her career in the entertainment industry after moving to Miami in the 90s.
The mother-son duo have talked about their relationship in recent interviews, with Manolo starting a new life chapter with a new business, highlighting his Colombian heritage. He recently talked about his passion for cooking and revealed that he learned by himself, as Sofia was not fond of being in the kitchen.
"I learned how to cook out of necessity," he told People during the launch of his partnership with the Beverly Hills restaurant 'The Hideaway.' "She doesn't cook at all. She hates being in the kitchen," the 33-year-old businessman said.
He continued, "She's not drawn to it at all. But I am, and I enjoy the process of cooking. I like cooking without a recipe. This sounds so annoying, but it's almost like an artistic thing, you know, just kind of [seeing] what happens."
Manolo is enjoying the launch of his empanada brand TOMA, co-founded with Sofia in 2024. The actress is proud of his son's passion and told Parade that she remembers when he started cooking at a very young age, as she would enjoy his dishes.
"He always cooked, always watched Emeril [Lagasse] and Food Network, and it was very cute," she shared with the publication, adding that he was very independent. "He used to make his own breakfast and lunch, he always made me dinners."
Manolo shared a glimpse at their loving relationship and poked fun at their dynamic. "She does this whole annoying thing that Latino moms do where they send voice notes instead of just sending a text message where you can just see what the message is and just, like, act on it immediately," he detailed.
"If I'm in a meeting I can't listen to this voice note. It's half an hour before I can. Just say [what you want] in [a] message, and I could have done it half an hour ago!" he added.
