Ben Affleck is teaching some important things to his 13-year-old son, Samuel Affleck. The pair attended a sneaker convention last week, checking out some of the rarest and coolest sneakers available for purchase. One of these pairs caught Samuel's eye, resulting in an important finance lesson from his father.
Samuel was interested in the Dior Air Jordan 1 sneakers, which are priced at $6,000. This limited edition collaboration was released in 2020, with all shoes made with Italian leather and boasting Dior's signature grey color palette. Each pair is individually numbered for exclusivity's sake.
After Samuel commented on how much he liked the shoes, Affleck said, “That’s a lot of lawns you’ve gotta mow there. You just like those because they’re expensive.”
"No, they're tough!" said Samuel. "I always said they look good."
Affleck addressed his comments at the premiere of "The Accountant 2"
This week, Affleck premiered his new film, "The Accountant 2" at SXSW festival, where he opened up about the making of the film and its action sequences. He was also asked about his son and whether or not he ultimately bought him the sneakers.
Affleck said that after telling Samuel he had to mow lawns for the shoes, Samuel lost interest in them. “That’s what happens when you tell a motherf---er they have to mow a lawn,” said Affleck to Access Hollywood. “All of a sudden they don’t want those shoes.”
Affleck explained that there's always some "grift" involved when dealing with a 13-year-old but that, at the end of the day, "you don't need thousand-dollar shoes!"
“He’s like ‘We have the money,‘” said Affleck. “I’m like ‘I have the money, you’re broke!’”
Affleck's interviews at SXSW were filled with delightful moments, showing off his parenting style and his great sense of humor. "For me, the challenge, of course, was the months and months I spent training to line dance. It was a stunt for me," he joked regarding his training for the action film. "Tom Cruise has nothing on me."
