Hold onto your black lace veils, folks! The queen of pop eccentricity, Lady Gaga, is stepping into the delightfully dark world of "Wednesday" for its second season. Our Wednesday Addams, Jenna Ortega, couldn't be more thrilled. In a chat with IndieWire at the SXSW festival, she gushed:
"It's the best. She's the best, definitely one of the most talented individuals I've ever worked with. It was just a really, really special environment to be there with her and Tim [Burton], two people that I respect and have been inspired by so much."
She also spilled the tea on Gaga's off-stage persona: "Then just finding out that she's such a sweetheart and really kind and reserved, it's very strange," she continued. "I love that you never know what to expect from her, but you can always expect kindness and generosity."
Gaga's Mysterious Role
As for who Gaga will portray? That's still under wraps. She's keeping mum about her character but did tease Entertainment Weekly: "I don't want to give away anything about being part of the show. I want to keep it extra secret — but, I love Jenna, and I really had an amazing time."
From TikTok Trend to On-Screen Magic
Remember that viral TikTok dance where Jenna's moves synced perfectly with Gaga's "Bloody Mary"? It seems the universe was hinting at this epic collaboration all along. But according to Jenna, they never addressed the viral clip. As for if Ortega talked to the "Mayhem" singer about it, she says, "No, actually we didn't. I don't think we did. We should have. Actually, I can't remember. Maybe I just saw an interview clip of her talking about it, because I feel like I'm fabricating this story in my head, but I think honestly on that day, we all were just so lucky that she came to do the show that we kept it as normal as we could," she said.
What's Brewing in Season 2?
The upcoming season promises more gothic adventures at Nevermore Academy. With Steve Buscemi joining as the new director, Barry Dort, and other fresh faces like Billie Piper and Joanna Lumley, the halls of Nevermore are about to get even more intriguing. The series showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar discussed the second season. "This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore,” they told Tudum.
Aside from new characters and situations, they assured that the new season would explore more of "The Addams Family," the series that inspired "Wednesday."
“We look forward to exploring more Addams Family lore, and are excited to introduce an eclectic lineup of incredible new characters."
“Our goal this season was to discover some fresh faces as well as invite some acting legends we’ve always admired to join Jenna and the gang at Nevermore,” explained Millar and Gough. “When we survey the talent we’ve assembled, we could not be more thrilled. Mission accomplished.”
While we eagerly await more details on Gaga's character, Season 2 is shaping up to be a wild, wicked ride.
