Ellen Pompeo is a television icon. The actress, known for her decades-spanning work in the beloved series "Grey's Anatomy," has earned the respect of her fans due to how honest she is when it comes to acting and making a living.
In a new interview, Pompeo discussed some of the benefits of working on "Grey's Anatomy" for such a long time. “The best thing is the financial security if I'm being very honest," she said in an interview with PEOPLE.
"It’s been really lucrative, and I think financial security is not something that every actress is afforded, so I’m very grateful for that."
As to the drawbacks, Pompeo revealed that it was difficult to continue to do the same storylines over and over again. “The hardest part is the repetitive nature of doing the same thing over and over. You know, there’s a familiarity with Grey’s that people love, so we can’t change it too much,” she said.
Pompeo's down-to-earth approach to acting and working prompted positive reactions from fans, who shared their comments on social media sites like Reddit.
“I like that she's being honest about the best aspect of it," wrote someone.
"Especially since in the latest seasons I've watched she wasn't making much effort with her acting. She has a very lucrative and stable job that allows her to work close from her family.”
“This is honestly so nice to see actresses talk about stuff like this,” wrote another person. “Welcome to our world Ellen.”
Pompeo's upcoming show
Pompeo is gearing up for the release of her upcoming show, a highly anticipated moment for longtime followers of her career. She's starring and producing in "A Good American Family."
The series is based on real events and stars herself and Mark Duplass as a couple who adopt a girl from Ukraine. As the series develops, the couple suspects that the girl they adopted is not a girl at all, and might just be an adult with a rare form of dwarfism.
The series premieres on Hulu on March 19, 2025.
