Princess Eugenie is mourning the death of her friend Michelle Trachtenberg. King Charles' 34-year-old niece paid tribute to the late Gossip Girl actress on Thursday with a post on her Instagram Story.
The Princess included a black-and-white photo of herself hugging Michelle, writing: "Goodbye special friend. You are so loved and missed. Thank you for so many memories of laughter and fun. You were so thoughtful and generous and soooo funny: My favourite was listening to you order food, always done with precision so you got exactly what we all wanted."
"I'm thinking of you up there friend, of your spirit that was so bright and your joy you brought so many.❤️❤️," Eugenie added.
The late actress and the royal were friends for years. Back in 2013, the pair were spotted sitting courtside at a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden.
Michelle once described Eugenie as an "amazing person." In an Instagram post for "#womancrushwednesday" in 2020, Michelle penned: "I met this wonderful human. Years ago in New York. Eugenie, has been one of the most dearest, kindest, most genuine friends I have ever had in my life."
The 17 Again star shared another snapshot of herself and Eugenie in 2016, writing, "There are few people in life that you meet that you know are true and real. This lady happens to be one of them. Friends really do mean a lot. Happy #stpatricksday May luck of love and friends be with you. 💚✨🍀."
Michelle died at the age of 39. She was found "unconscious and unresponsive" in New York City on Wednesday, Feb. 26. According to CNN, a New York City Medical Examiner spokesperson said that the Harriet the Spy actress' "family declined an autopsy and because Trachtenberg’s death was not deemed suspicious by law enforcement, the medical examiner’s office honored that request."
Sources told PEOPLE that Michelle had recently undergone a liver transplant. Another source told the outlet that "she was really, really sick and open with those in her circle about how much she was struggling," adding, "She was pale, gaunt, very thin, and dealing with health issues."
A number of Michelle's former costars have reacted to her passing, including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Blake Lively, Taylor Momsen, Kelly Rutherford and Kim Cattrall. On Instagram, Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Sarah wrote: “'Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. The hardest thing in this world, is to live in it. I will be brave. I will live… for you' 💔💔💔🗝️."
