Tony Hawk is thinking about Kurt Cobain. The beloved athlete recently welcomed a grandchild and has been sharing sweet updates on his social media. He and the late Cobain share a grandson thanks to the relationship that blossomed between their kids: Riley Hawk and Frances Bean Cobain.
Over the weekend, Hawk shared a photo of a ticket stub of a 1991 Nirvana show, showing that he's been a fan of Cobain long before knowing that he'd share a unique bond with the band's lead singer. Hawk explained that he attended the concert after a skating competition and that it altered his perception of music.
“It was as transformative as live music can possibly be," wrote Hawk. "We all experienced something rare and powerful that night. The world would never be the same.”
“I wish Kurt were here so he could see the incredible woman his daughter has become, meet her devoted, caring husband, and hold our wondrous grandchild.”
Earlier this month, Hawk shared a photo of himself and his grandchild skating inside their house. The photo shows Hawk kneeling on his skateboard, holding Ronin as he smiles for the camera. "What happens when all of your kids can skate on their own and no longer rely on you to give them rides? You wait until they have their own kids. Circles (wheels?) of life," he captioned the post.
Frances' relationship with her late father
Frances Cobain is the only daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. She is now 32 years old and has reminisced about her father and the impact of not getting to know him as she grew up.
“I wish I could’ve known my Dad. I wish I knew the cadence of his voice, how he liked his coffee or the way it felt to be tucked in after a bedtime story,” she wrote on the 30th anniversary of his death.
“I always wondered if he would’ve caught tadpoles with me during the muggy Washington summers, or if he smelled of Camel Lights & strawberry nesquik (his favorites, I’ve been told).”
She and her husband Riley welcomed their son in September of last year, named Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk.
