Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is saying goodbye to his longtime four-legged best friend. On Tuesday, February 25, the actor shared on Instagram that his beloved dog, Hobbs, had passed away. In a heartfelt tribute, the 52-year-old star posted a carousel of photos and videos capturing special moments with Hobbs over the years. From playful bites to heartfelt snuggles, the bond between Johnson and his pup was undeniable.
"RIP 💔 Hobbs. I've been numb over this loss, but we're so grateful for every ounce of pure love he gave our entire family," he wrote. "We're so grateful he didn't suffer long as he quietly and bravely left in the night."
He added, "Lately, there's been a lot that's too big to talk about. Lonesome, lonely, heard it's all the same."
In true Rock fashion, he ended his message with a bittersweet wish: "Not sure how spirits work, but come back and visit every once in a while so we can get in trouble and laugh again. 🥃💔."
A Hollywood Pup With a Special Place in Johnson's Heart
Hobbs wasn't just any dog. The adorable pup joined Johnson's family in 2016 and quickly became a staple in his life—and even his career.
In 2019, the "Moana" star revealed that he cast Hobbs in "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw," giving his furry friend a well-deserved moment in the spotlight. "Ladies and gents, the gremlin known as HOBBS. As producer of @hobbsandshaw, I thought it was the right thing to do to actually cast my French bulldog in our movie," the actor said at the time.
"Nepotism shmepotism 😉💁🏽♂️Three years ago we brought puppy Hobbs and his baby brother, Brutus home to become our ohana. Sadly, we lost puppy Brutus a few months later. Broke our hearts, but this little beast Hobbs goes on to live his best life daily and I’m quite proud of his performance in our movie," The Rock wrote.
And just last year, in November 2024, he proudly shared photos of Hobbs tagging along for his GQ cover shoot.
Remembering Hobbs
The tribute post included a mix of joyful and emotional moments, including Hobbs licking Johnson's face, playing around, and a touching black-and-white photo that perfectly captured their bond.
Fans send their condolences to the star. "So sorry for your loss DJ 🐾🤍 He’s in doggy heaven right now going “you won’t even BELIEVE the life I’ve had,'" a person wrote, while another added, "So very sorry for your loss😢 Please read the poem: The Rainbow Bridge🌈 it has given me comfort when losing my beautiful angel animals. Hobbs will forever be your family’s angel.😇So much love to you all."
Losing a pet is never easy, and Johnson's words hit home for anyone who's ever had to say goodbye to a furry family member. Hobbs lived a life full of love, adventure, and, of course, plenty of treats.
