Grimes is addressing her and Elon Musk's son's recent appearance at the Oval Office. The moment occurred earlier this month and went viral online, showing her son X with his father and President Donald Trump.
In an interview with TIME, Grimes addressed the media's reaction to her posts and asked people online to stop spreading the photo of her son. "It was like, 'Grimes slams,' 'Grimes speaks out.' It's like, OK, it was a reply," said Grimes of the media's reaction and coverage of the incident.
"But I would really like people to stop posting images of my kid everywhere. I think fame is something you should consent to. Obviously, things will just be what they are. But I would really, really appreciate that. I can only ask, so I'm just asking."
Grime's comments follow X's appearance at the Oval Office on February 11th. After seeing the images circulating online, Grimes wrote on X: "He should not be in public like this.”
A few days later, Grimes shared another post on X, this time, addressing Musk directly. "Plz respond about our child’s medical crisis. I am sorry to do this publicly but it is no longer acceptable to ignore this situation.”
More details about Grimes and Musk's relationship
Grimes and Elon Musk dated for three years on and off, and share three children: X Æ A-Xii, 4, Exa Dark Sideræl, 3, and Techno Mechanicus, 2. The pair announced their break up in 2021.
Since Donald Trump took office, with Musk being a member of his administration and playing a loud role in American politics, Grimes has decided to distance himself from him, at least publicly. "It's absurd that someone can be this canceled for something their ex did before they even heard it happened," she wrote on X.
"I am not him. I will not make a statement every time he does something. I can only send love back into a world that is hurting."
