Jack Nicholson and Anjelica Huston were involved in a long and complicated relationship, dating on and off for 17 years. The pair had an emotional reunion after the chaos of the Los Angeles fires, with Huston's home threatened by the flames that raged through January.
In a recent interview, Huston opened up about her career and her relationships, including the complex one she shares with Nicholson. She revealed that he had reached out after the fires, offering her a place to stay as she evacuated from her house.
“I was in a car with three dogs, two cats, and the housekeeper, and he called and asked if I was all right and if I had someplace I was staying," said Huston to The Guardian.
"That’s the bottom line with he and I – when the chips are down, he’s there.”
Huston and Nicholson's complicated relationship
Huston and Nicholson were one of Hollywood's most notorious couples. While the pair clearly loved each other, Nicholson cheated throughout their relationship, something that Huston was aware of and tolerated.
“I loved him," she explained. "I think in the world that I was living in, it wasn’t disrespectful. It was how he was, and it wasn’t so personal. I think as soon as I clocked that, it was all right, I knew how to protect myself. It didn’t make me happy, but I knew what I was doing."
“I did what I wanted to do, and I did it with sureness. If I wanted something, I knew how to go after it, so it wasn’t as though anything was being done to me. I wasn’t a wilting flower.”
Huston and Nicholson's relationship relationship concluded in 1990 when Huston learned that Nicholson had fathered a child with someone else. Shortly after, Huston met Robert Graham, whom she married and remained with until his death, in 2008.
