Jennifer Lopez is overjoyed! Over the weekend, the singer and actress took to Instagram to celebrate a major milestone—her twins Maximilian “Max” David Muniz and Emme Maribel Muniz just turned 17.
On Saturday, February 22, Lopez, 55, shared an emotional video montage honoring her kids, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony. “Seventeen. I love you beyond forever 🥥🥥,” she captioned the post, keeping it short and sweet.
The video walks fans down memory lane with throwback clips and photos of Lopez with her twins over the years. There’s footage of them posing on a tire swing, backstage hugs, and cozy family moments at restaurants, home, and on vacation. Emme is seen performing onstage, while Max appears dressed in a school uniform, proof that J.Lo is her kids’ biggest cheerleader, whether they’re in the spotlight or just living their everyday lives.
J.Lo on Motherhood and Raising Teens
Lopez has always been open about the joys and challenges of motherhood, and as her twins grow up, she’s reflecting on how she’s juggled it all.
In a December 2024 interview with British Vogue, she spoke candidly about balancing a demanding career with being a present mom. "As a mom, you always want to put your best foot forward for your kids. You want to lift them. That doesn’t stop you from being a human being who struggles," she shared.
She also got real about single parenting in a separate chat with Entertainment Weekly, where she discussed her role in "Unstoppable," a film in which she plays the mother of champion wrestler Anthony Robles. "I've been a single mom at times in my life, and [I've asked,] 'Am I enough for them?' And the truth is, all you need is really one good parent to love you."
J.Lo and Emme’s Close Bond
Lopez and her daughter Emme share a particularly special connection. Emme, who uses they/them pronouns, was first believed to follow in their dad and mom’s musical footsteps after performing alongside Lopez at the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show and during various concerts. However, J.Lo, who has been incredibly supportive of Emme’s personal and professional journey, said there is no career music on the cards for her daughter.
"For us, it's not about putting her out in the spotlight; it's about doing things together that bond us. I don't put her in everything; she's not going to work professionally – a lot of people are asking me that. It's something that we connect on, is singing," Jennifer explained, "I ask her to do these things, and if she wants to, she can, and if she doesn’t want to, that's fine with me too. But I just think there was a message there that we could put out into the world, that women being empowered and raising their voices and getting loud and speaking up for themselves. And that's something that I want to pass onto my daughter. She flaws me every time; she's an angel."
In 2022, Lopez introduced Emme on stage at a Los Angeles concert using gender-neutral pronouns, calling them her "favorite duet partner of all time." She has also spoken about her pride in Emme’s confidence and authenticity, letting them carve out their identity while always having her full support.
Jennifer has also said that Emme started singing as a baby and that she has inherited her dad’s fantastic singing skills.
J.Lo’s Relationship With Max
While Emme shares her mom’s love for performing and vintage shopping, Max is known for his humor and laid-back personality. Lopez often gushes about his comedic side, calling him the “funniest person” she knows. In past interviews, she has also shared that Max is incredibly kind, thoughtful, and intelligent, always asking deep questions about life.
Despite being one of the world's most famous women, Lopez ensures her son gets plenty of typical mom moments. She's always there, from cuddling up at home to cheering him on at school events. She’s even joked that Max sometimes calls her out when she gets too wrapped up in work, reminding her to slow down and just be present.
Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez welcomed their twins in 2008. Six years later, the Latin power couple divorced but remained close as they co-parent their children.
What’s Next for J.Lo?
Between celebrating her twins' birthday and gearing up for her latest projects, Lopez is as busy as ever. JLo is gearing up to headline the WorldPride Music Festival in Washington, DC, on June 6 and 7 this summer. This is the largest LGBTQ+ music festival in history, bringing together an incredible mix of pop, house, drag, EDM, and techno vibes across three stages.
After canceling her US Summer 2024 Tour, "THIS IS ME...LIVE," the singer, actress, and all-around icon decided to pause her tour to spend quality time with her children, family, and close friends. In a heartfelt newsletter, she admitted, "I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down." Even though it was a tough decision, she promised, "I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again."
