Elon Musk's family is filled with notorious personalities. His mother, Maye Musk, is a model; his brother, Kimbal, is an entrepreneur; and his younger sister, Tosca, manages her own filmmaking business. As the CEO of Tosca of Passionflix, a streaming service for fans of romance, Tosca hopes to give romance fans the films and shows they're craving. Aside from managing the company, she also directs most of the films that the streamer produces, a rarity in the entertainment industry.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tosca addressed numerous topics, from her business to her relationship with her controversial brother. Scroll down to learn more.
She's a fan of love stories
Tosca Musk's job was born out of a passion for romance films and novels. One of her fondest childhood memories is of herself and her mom watching romance adaptations on VHS tapes on Sundays.
The idea to make Passionflix was born out of the state of Hollywood today, where romance films are difficult to find despite romance books having a large readership. “Where are our Notting Hills and our Harry Met Sallys?” she said. “Those are the movies that I loved growing up, and I would love to see now, but they weren’t being made, and I’m not sure why.”
Despite Elon Musk's notoriety, Tosca has her own politics
While Elon Musk plays a key figure in President Donald Trump's administration, Tosca has her own politics.
“I love my family dearly, and I will always be there and always support them, but sometimes their beliefs and their structures can be placed on me as if they’re the same as mine,” she said. “And they aren’t. Everybody is their own person with their own belief system and priorities.”
She got started working in technology
While Tosca now runs a business and dedicates her time to making films, she used to work in Silicon Valley with her brothers Elon and Kimbal. She worked in Zip2, one of Elon's first businesses, which played a key part in building his current wealth. It was there that Tosca realized that working on the future of the internet wasn't her true passion.
Tosca is a single mother
Tosca is the mother of twins, a boy and a girl, via in vitro fertilization with an anonymous donor. “I was getting older, I was not in a relationship, but I really wanted to have children,” she said. “So I decided to have them by myself. Best decision I ever made.”
In her spare time, Tosca runs a children's theater club. They're currently making a production of "Mean Girls Junior, The Musical."
