The past may be in the rearview mirror for Khloé Kardashian, but the emotional road ahead for Lamar Odom remains uncertain. During the season six premiere of "The Kardashians," which aired at midnight on February 6, Khloé, 40, took a significant step in closing the book on her past by reuniting with her ex-husband for the first time in nine years. The encounter at her best friend Malika Haqq's house was not about rekindling old flames but rather about returning some of Lamar's belongings and perhaps finally putting their tumultuous history to rest.
Khloé's decision to meet with Lamar, 45, was deeply personal, one she kept from her sisters and even her mother, Kris Jenner, 69, knowing that their emotional involvement might complicate the process. "Lamar was, and is, definitely someone that I was like, the love of my life," she admitted in a confessional. "I got married when I was 24, and although him and I got married 30 days to the day after meeting one another, I loved him with all of my heart and soul."
Despite her profound love for Lamar, their marriage, which lasted from 2009 to 2016, was riddled with challenges, including his widely publicized struggles with addiction and infidelity. Khloé reminisced about their time together, recognizing both unparalleled and devastating highs. "I don't know if I could even put into words what I felt for Lamar. It felt like the most special, magical time of my life. the most purest love I've ever had. And although there was so much darkness in that marriage, there were the brightest of the bright times. And I love it, and I cherish it."
However, love alone wasn't enough to salvage their relationship. The final breaking point came in 2015 when Lamar suffered a near-fatal overdose, which left him in a coma. Khloé remained by his side through his recovery, but ultimately, his repeated behaviors forced her to sever ties. "I was very upset. I said to him, 'I'm going to Vegas. You need to be out by Monday. That's it, I'm done.' And I haven't seen Lamar since that day."
Fast forward nearly a decade, and Khloé approached their reunion with a sense of closure rather than nostalgia. "I haven't had contact with Lamar in nine years, and I just think it's time to shed as much as I can," she explained. "I don't have bad blood. I don't have any blood. There's no feelings. I want him to have his stuff…and that's it. I wish I could just do that and not have a conversation."
By giving back his "stuff," Kardashian might be trying to distance herself from their past relationship and all reminders of it.
For Lamar, however, the moment seemed to carry a different weight. When he arrived at Malika's house, Khloé observed that he was "visibly uncomfortable," nervous, and sweating. While she remained emotionally detached, Lamar's reaction hinted at unresolved feelings. Seeing Khloé again wasn't just about retrieving old belongings but stepping back into a life he once knew and lost.
"It's almost like a death," Khloé admitted, reflecting on the years of pain and healing that followed their separation. "Still, the reunion felt so familiar and so uncharted, all at the same time. I don't know this person anymore. It's just a mind f---."
The reunion is emotional for Khloé, who now shares two children—True, 6, and Tatum, 2—with her ex-boyfriend Tristan Thompson. Still, she is ready to move on.
