Former and incoming First Lady Melania Trump reunited with Queen Rania of Jordan ahead of the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump. The royal and first lady met on Thursday, Jan. 16, in Palm Beach, Florida, where Mar-a-Lago is located.
As the incoming First Lady, Melania Trump has pledged to maintain her focus on social causes, as she revealed in a recent interview on Fox & Friends. "I will continue with Be Best, and I will also expand Be Best," Trump stated during the Monday broadcast, reaffirming her commitment to the initiative she launched during her husband's first presidency.
During their meeting, which was hosted by Melania, the Queen and first lady "discussed various issues of mutual interest, including children’s welfare, as well as improving their education," according to Her Majesty's office. The pair's meeting was followed by a lunch.
The Queen took to her Instagram on Friday to share a photo of herself and the first lady sitting across from each other in conversation. "It was a pleasure reconnecting with incoming U.S. First Lady Melania Trump in Florida yesterday #Jordan #USA #Florida," Rania captioned the post.
Her Majesty looked stylish in a navy dress and white pumps for the meeting, while Melania was dressed in a sleeveless white number.
Thursday marked the third time that Rania and Melania have met in the United States. During President-elect Trump's first term, the Queen of Jordan visited the White House with her husband King Abdullah II in April 2017 and in June 2018. Following their visit in 2018, the first lady wrote on Instagram, "A great visit with the King & Queen of Jordan. @POTUS & I were glad to welcome them back to the @Whitehouse. @QueenRania & I shared an open & productive discussion about the many issues our countries are challenged with today."
Melania met with various royals during her husband's first tenure as president, including the late Queen Elizabeth. In her self-titled memoir, which was released last year, the first lady wrote about keeping in touch with King Charles. She shared, "our friendship with the Royal Family continues, and we exchange letters with King Charles to this day."
Melania's husband will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, Jan. 20.
