Just a few days before Donald Trump's inauguration as the 47th President of the United States, which will take place on Monday, January 20, 2025, in Washington D.C., details about the special guests who will witness the ceremony have been slowly revealed. It was just announced that among the guests at this historic event is businessman Carlos Slim Helú, who is known as the richest man in Mexico and Latin America, according to Forbes.
Carlos Slim will attend Trump's presidential inauguration, along with businessman Francisco Cervantes, leader of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE). Cervantes announced the news at the end of a meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum.
"We will be in Washington, we are also invited to the dinner," Cervantes declared. "We will be there and also with the high-ranking officials of the United States to begin to have talks," he explained to reporters after the meeting with Mexican and Canadian businessmen.
When asked specifically if he would attend the inauguration, he confirmed that he would be there, adding that Carlos Slim would also be in attendance. "Yes, engineer Carlos Slim is going too," he replied.
Carlos Slim's fortune:
According to Forbes, engineer Carlos Slim Helú is ranked 19th on the list of billionaires, with an approximate fortune of 77 billion dollars. The Slim family owns control of América Móvil, the largest telecommunications company in Latin America. In the 1990s, Slim acquired the shares of Telmex, the largest telephone company in Mexico, which is part of América Móvil.
Slim has shares and interests in construction, real estate, mining, and goods distribution companies. The Slims own 76% of Grupo Carso, one of the largest conglomerates in Latin America. In 2010, the Mexican magnate became the richest Mexican in the world for the first time.
The president of Mexico was not invited:
While Mexican businessmen are included in the list of attendees at the ceremony, it has been reported that the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, was not invited to the event. When questioned about the fact that she had not been considered for the presidential inauguration, the Mexican President responded in her daily press conference La Mañanera: "No (I was invited), but that's okay."
Chinese President Xi Jinping was invited, but according to Forbes, he declined the invitation. Other leaders invited to the ceremony in Washington D.C. are Javier Milei, President of Argentina; Daniel Noboa, President of Ecuador and Nayib Bukele, President of El Salvador.
