Eva Longoria is helping out the city of Los Angeles as best she can. The filmmaker and actress returned to one of the affected areas this Wednesday, January 15th, helping volunteers and offering her support as she packaged supplies and cleared out the debris making the area inhospitable.
Photographers captured Longoria supporting her community in different ways, collaborating with volunteers as they all tried their best to show up for their city.
She wore a comfortable all-black outfit that allowed her to move around and help, paired with sneakers and a Los Angeles cap.
Longoria worked with NDLON, GEM and This is About Humanity, an organization she'd previously supported by donating $50,000.
In an Instagram post, she revealed she donated "to support frontline workers, farm workers, day laborers and families impacted by the wildfires."
This past Monday, Longoria took things further; the Eva Longoria Foundation pledged a million dollars to Julián Castro's Latino Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund and the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund.
Longoria revealed that the large sum of money was in part due to the Bezos Courage and Civility Award, granted to her by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez.
The award allows recipients to donate a sum of money to a charity that aligns with their views.
"I was really lucky to get the Courage and Civility Award from Lauren and Jeff," said Longoria in an appearance on The Today Show.
"That's really dedicated to what my foundation has always been doing, which is education and entrepreneurship and economic mobility," continued Longoria.
She revealed that the devastation of the fires prompted her and her foundation to be proactive and try something different.
"But when something like this happens, we were like, 'How do we pivot? We've got to do something.' I'm in a very privileged position to help. And I just was like, 'Let's do it, we got to do this,'" she said.
Longoria's volunteer work consisted of various tasks, including helping distribute PPE care packages, handing out meals to volunteers and workers, providing emotional support to people who had been affected, and more.
