The iconic American actor and his wife got a special invite from Banderas to catch his musical Gypsy, which is closing its show in Málaga soon. The last performance is set for this Sunday, January 12—the show will be back at the Teatro Apolo in Madrid starting February 7.

According to local reports, after the show, Gere congratulated the entire cast for their "great talent" and especially praised actress Marta Ribera for her lead role. He even joked, saying, "Although I don’t understand everything in Spanish, I loved the show."

"Last night, we had a VIP guest! Richard Gere enjoyed the magic of Gypsy. It’s an honor to have him at the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank!" shared the team excitedly on social media alongside a photo of the Gere couple with the cast. Antonio Banderas also expressed his gratitude, saying, "Dear friend, thank you for coming to see Gypsy at @teatrodelsoho @caixabank. This is your home!"

The 'Pretty Woman' actor and his wife left the theater through the back exit, accompanied by Nicole Kimpel and surrounded by a lot of excitement. A number of fans who noticed them were waiting to say hello and eagerly asked Gere for photos.

Their next stop was Doña Inés, the restaurant at the Room Mate Valeria Hotel in Málaga's vibrant Soho district. The four of them enjoyed an evening at this fusion cuisine spot, known for its dim lighting, velvet blue chairs, and VIP area. With a high-quality menu paired with an exceptional wine list, the restaurant offers Argentine dishes like empanadas, chorizo criollo, milanesa, and ojo de bife, as well as grilled vegetables, roasted cod, and classic desserts like rice pudding, torrija, and cheesecake.

Antonio Banderas' Gypsy

Antonio Banderas directs 'Gypsy,' a musical exploring "the pathology of success." According to the renowned actor and director, Gypsy explores the complex nature of ambition and the desire to triumph at all costs—a theme deeply connected to the American cultural drive. "The play is a reflection on that thick, murky space created between success and failure," Banderas said.

The musical 'Gypsy' by director Antonio Banderas, has been presented this morning at the CaixaBank Soho Theater in Malaga, which will premiere on October 17, starring musical theater star Marta Ribera who, along with some thirty actors and 26 musicians from Soho's Larios Pop orchestra, will bring to life the definitive story about an ambitious "artist's mother" who struggles for her daughters' success, while secretly yearning for her own.

This project took shape when Banderas was involved in a performance of Company at the Teatro Albéniz in Madrid, where Marta Ribera, the lead actress of Gypsy, was also part of the cast. "There is a person in this country who has all the qualities to play a character as complex as Rose," he said, revealing that it took Ribera a few days to accept the offer, as "sometimes, gifts are hard to admit and need time to think over."

Gypsy is at the height of its popularity, concluding its run in Malaga with all tickets sold out. The show will return to the Apolo Theatre in Madrid on February 7.

With a script by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Gypsy has premiered in Spain, thanks to Antonio Banderas, who has produced a uniquely abstract and artistically distinct version of the musical. The production features around thirty actors on stage and 26 musicians from the Larios Pop orchestra of Soho.
