Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana, 77, is recovering after an unfortunate fall at his vacation home in Kauai left him with a broken finger. The iconic musician, who was preparing to kick off a new set of shows as part of his Las Vegas residency later this month, has been forced to postpone the performances due to an injury.

Michael Vrionis, president of Universal Tone Management, shared the news in a statement on Friday, January 3, explaining the extent of Santana's injury. "I am sorry to say that Carlos was out taking a walk at his vacation home in Kauai. He took a hard fall, and he broke his little finger on his left hand," Vrionis revealed. "He had to have pins inserted in the finger. Unfortunately, he won't be able to play guitar for approximately six weeks."

Despite the setback, Santana is reportedly in good spirits. Doctors are optimistic about his recovery, stating that the guitarist will "recuperate fully."

Postponed Performances

The postponement affects Santana's scheduled January shows at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. His "An Intimate Evening with Santana: Greatest Hits Live" residency has been a staple for 13 years. Originally scheduled to perform on January 22, 23, 25, 26, 29, and 30, Santana must now adjust the dates.

The statement from Vrionis emphasized the artist's regret over the delay but also reaffirmed his priority of health. "Santana profoundly regrets these postponements of his upcoming performances, but accidents happen, and his health is our number one concern," Vrionis said. "He is looking forward to seeing all of his fans very soon."

Upcoming Tour Plans

In addition to his Las Vegas residency, Santana and his band have a packed schedule ahead. In December, they announced new dates for the "Oneness Tour," set to kick off in April in Highland, California, and run through August. While it's unclear if Santana's recovery will impact these dates, fans remain hopeful for his swift return to the stage.

Known for his resilience and passion for music, Santana reflected on his enduring zest for life in a 2023 interview with PEOPLE. "Everything's a fun time because there's still a 7-year-old Carlos in me that looks at life like, 'What are we going to get into today?'" he said. "I'm just starting, and everything has prepared me for this."

With a legacy spanning decades and an unmatched enthusiasm for his craft, Santana's fans are eager to see him back in action. Get well soon!

“I’m going to be taking time off for a little bit to make sure that I replenish and rest and I catch up with my health so that when I play for you, I play the way I’m used to and give you 150%,” he said in a video message. “I wouldn’t show up if I couldn’t do that.”
