Jennifer Lopez has been part of many pop culture moments throughout her successful career in the entertainment industry. The Hollywood star, who is preparing for the release of her new movie 'Kiss of the Spider Woman' at the Sundance Film Festival, is currently promoting 'Unstoppable' with a series of interviews and special appearances.
During one of her latest interviews, Jennifer was asked about one of her most viral moments, which is still a reference for many despite having taken place in 2011 at the American Music Awards.
JLo received an award in the Favorite Latin Music Artist category and finished her acceptance speech by dedicating the honor to 'Mi Gente Latino,' referring to her cultural background.
The phrase quickly became a meme for online users and is still referenced in conversations and online interactions. "Ok, can you explain to me why that's funny?" Jennifer said during a joint interview with Judy Robles while promoting her movie 'Unstoppable.'
"I thought they were making fun of me!" The actress said to the interviewer, who said that it is an "iconic" phrase, before adding that the correct phrase is 'Mi Gente Latina.' "That's why is funny!" Jennifer reacted.
"I think we should say it well so we can correct it," she said to the interviewer. "It is so funny because I thought to myself, is it 'Mi Gente Latino' or is it 'Mi Gente Latina'?" Jennifer said, explaining that she says it "all the time."
"We know it's 'Mi Gente Latina' [but] in the emotion of the moment I said 'Mi Gente Latino,'" she explained. "I said it wrong at an award show one time and they never let me forget it," JLo said to Judy, adding, "It's a mess."
