Naomi Osaka opens up about split from Cordae after 6 years together: 'My daughter is my biggest blessing'

The former couple share an 18-month-old baby daughter Shai.

Naomi Osaka is opening up about her recent life update. The tennis star is getting real about her breakup with her former romantic partner, Cordae, after 6 years. The pair decided to call it quits, and Naomi has revealed that despite not being together, she feels "blessed" and praised him for being an "awesome dad."

The former couple share an 18-month-old baby daughter Shai. “Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together," Naomi shared, adding that Cordae is "a great person and an awesome dad."

"Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship," Naomi shared to her fans and followers on social media. Her statement comes after a cryptic post where she hinted at a major life update. 

“I’ve come to the conclusion that what’s meant for me is meant for me," the message read. “Maybe certain situations occur to train my mind for what’s to come,” she continued. “Maybe there’s bigger and better things on my path, and I just have to continue the journey to encounter them.”

The pair were linked romantically in April 2019, with Cordae confirming the relationship shortly after during an interview. “That’s my girl," he said to HOT 97 at the time.

Naomi has been open about her motherhood journey after welcoming their daughter. "I was also constantly struggling with this overwhelming urge to 'snapback', seeing other moms seemingly shrink immediately after having their baby was an expectation I began to put on myself," she wrote in October 2024. 

"All bodies are different and I appreciate mine for how it is," she said. "My body has done so much for me and adapted so well to the tasks that I’m asking from it, I’m extremely grateful and thankful."
