Jorge Ramos has closed a very important cycle in his career. After 40 years of being part of TelevisaUnivision, the journalist said goodbye to his audience and to the news program he was known for, putting an end to an era in Hispanic television and his career, just as he had announced two months ago, when he confirmed that, after a mutual agreement, he would no longer be part of the television station.
His departure has been full of very moving and special moments, with some of his closest friends and loved ones present in the process, including Chiquinquirá Delgado, his romantic partner, as well as Lili Estefan, who gave him a sweet farewell.
Jorge addressed his audience and reminisced on his personal and professional growth in front of the cameras and front of the viewers. “This is my last newscast. It has been more than 38 years in this very place. I started at 28 years old without gray hair. Now I am 66, and you can see me… I recently did the count, and I was present for around 8 thousand newscasts, more or less,” he said.
The journalist continued talking about what all these years of work have been like and how significant it has been to grow in his career. “It has been almost magical and full of adrenaline to produce a newscast as a team. García Márquez was right that journalism is the best job in the world. I cannot imagine any other profession that would have allowed me a life as intense and full of satisfaction and adventure as this one,” Ramos stated.
He admitted that saying goodbye to the company where he worked for more than 40 years has been difficult, and he is leaving with his head held high. "For more than four decades this company has been like my second home and, I will not deny it, this is a difficult moment," he said. "For me, journalism is a true mission. I don't know yet what I'm going to do, I'll tell you, but I am convinced that true journalists never retire," he added.
During his farewell, his girlfriend, Chiquinquirá Delgado, was present behind the cameras, showing him her full support throughout the day in this moment of transition. "The end of an era and the beginning of new adventures," she said, sharing a photo of Jorge on the set of his newscast. Lili Estefan, who was his partner in the company for many years, was also there to support him and say goodbye.
