New sources claim that the two are continuing to strengthen their relationship as Barron grows and faces new challenges in his life.

“Melania worries about the hate in the country and how it falls on her son, who is innocent of any of this," said a source to PEOPLE

“She is and has been a good sounding board for him. They talk about life as it is and how they are in the spotlight," they continued.

"She tries to normalize his life. If that is even possible.”

More sources spoke to PEOPLE and shared that Melania has advised her son to be extra careful when meeting new people in college, all in hopes of keeping him safe.

"Any child in the world spotlight like this would be lucky to have a parent so willing to give her time to help keep his life running smoothly," said the source, which is based in Palm Beach, where Barron spent a large chunk of his teenage years

"She wants to encourage him to make friends, be super careful of the haters which can be anywhere — especially on college campuses these days — and keep him mentally healthy by having open communication with him and the rest of her immediate family."

Now that Donald Trump's presidential term is approaching, it appears like Melania won't be staying in the White House full-time. She's likely to spend her time split evenly in between Washington and New York, making sure to spend time with her son while also fulfilling her duties as First Lady.
