Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, crowned Miss Universe on November 16, immersed herself in Thai culture during her recent visit to Thailand. After a brief stop in New York to fulfill her duties as Miss Universe, the Danish beauty queen traveled to Southeast Asia, home to Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip, the co-owner of the Miss Universe Organization.

While in Thailand, Victoria attended an exclusive event hosted by a prestigious jewelry brand and explored the country's rich history and traditions. She most notably visited a revered Buddhist temple to honor Thai culture and commemorate one of the country's most significant holidays.

December 5 holds deep cultural significance in Thailand as it marks the birth anniversary of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) and is also celebrated as Father's Day. Recognizing the importance of this occasion, Victoria, 21, made a heartfelt visit to Bowon Niwet Temple, where the late monarch's remains rest. Wearing the iconic "Light of Infinity" crown she earned when she was crowned Miss Universe 2024, Victoria joined the Thai people in celebrating this solemn day of remembrance and unity.

Taking to Instagram, Victoria shared a series of photos from her temple visit along with a thoughtful reflection: "December 5 is of profound significance for the Thai people, commemorating the birth anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IX. As the nation honors their beloved monarch, whose legacy of compassion, wisdom, and unity endures, it is also observed as Father's Day in Thailand—a time to reflect on love, respect, and gratitude. Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, the reigning Miss Universe, joined in this solemn occasion by traveling to the revered Bowon Niwet Temple to pay her respects at the resting place of Rama IX's remains, embracing the spirit of unity and cultural reverence that defines this special day."

Victoria Kjaer Theilvig's Global Agenda: Less Than a Month After Her Coronation

Less than a month after being crowned Miss Universe 2024 in Mexico City, Victoria has already embarked on a whirlwind international tour. Following the pageant, she spent a few hours in Mexico before traveling to Miami, where she gave her first interviews to the global press.

She then moved on to New York City, where she made history as the first Miss Universe to participate in the iconic lighting of the Empire State Building. The landmark was illuminated in the colors of Denmark's flag in honor of Victoria's historic win as the first Danish Miss Universe. During her stay in New York, she also participated in her first official photo shoot with renowned photographer Fadil Berisha.

Now, in Thailand, Victoria has been soaking in the country's vibrant culture. Her next stop will be Indonesia, where she will continue her journey as Miss Universe 2024.

Thailand: A Pageant-Obsessed Nation

The visit to Thailand is particularly meaningful, as the country has a strong passion for beauty pageants. However, this year's Miss Universe results sparked controversy among Thai fans, who expressed their dissatisfaction on X (formerly Twitter). Many felt that their representative, Suchata Chuangsri, was unfairly denied the crown.

Suchata, a 21-year-old native of Phuket who is studying international relations at Thammasat University, gained attention for her eloquence during the Q&A round and ultimately finished as the third runner-up. Thailand, which has previously won the Miss Universe crown in 1965 and 1988, eagerly anticipates achieving a third victory—a hope that is rekindled each year by its devoted fanbase.

Anne responded to the backlash with a firm response. She called the fan outrage "ridiculous" and urged critics to move past their disappointment. "A Miss Universe should be a brand ambassador — someone personable, likable, and hardworking," Anne explained. She reiterated that fluency in English is not required, as candidates may respond in their native language if their answers are clear and direct.
