While discussing the book with her friend and journalist Harry Smith, Cher answered some fun questions, including the name of the man she would've liked to date in her lifetime.

“Are there men in your life," said Smith, “was there ever a man, and this is not in the book — this is just for fun — a man that you said, ‘Would’ve, could’ve, should’ve’?”

Cher's reply was fast. "Michael McDonald."

McDonald is a singer and songwriter with a lengthy career, working with bands like Mike and the Majestics, Jerry Jay and the Sheratons, The Doobie Brothers, and more. He also had a successful solo career, winning many awards, including various Grammys over the '70s and '80s.

Cher revealed that one of the things that she liked the most about him was his stunning voice. “I would have gone out with him for his voice,” she said.

“If he just would sing to me, I would just love it.” Cher revealed that went once on tour with him, and that she chose to sing back up vocals in a performance just to share the stage with him.

Cher's heartbreak

Over the past weeks, Cher has been doing press for her book, discussing some of the key moments in her life. At "The Howard Stern Show," she opened up regarding her experiences with heartbreak, revealing that her relationship with Val Kilmer left her in a bad place.

“Look, I was madly in love with Val Kilmer and he left,” she said. The pair dated for two years after meeting at a birthday party and had a 13-year age difference.

Despite the heartbreak, Cher and Kilmer appear to be in a good place now.  “I loved him—and I love him," she said in a 2021 interview with PEOPLE.
