Longoria clarifies her comments about the U.S.

While we will surely continue to see Longoria on red carpets in the United States, she recently made headlines for her decision to relocate to Spain and Mexico with her family: husband José Bastón and their 6-year-old son Santiago.

She explained the move to Marie Claire, sharing that filming in Hollywood wasn’t the same, and she felt that chapter of her life was over. "Most Americans aren't so lucky," she said. "They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them."

The quote made waves, with some speculating her decision was tied to President-elect Donald Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, whom she endorsed.

Longoria cleared the air with her friend Ana Navarro during a call to The View: Behind the Table podcast. "Will you please let them know I didn’t move out of the United States because of Trump?" she said. She pointed out that she’s been "in Europe for almost three years."

"I didn’t leave because of the political environment. I left because my work took me there," she added, explaining that speculation about her relocation being politically motivated was "divisive." She emphasized, "We can't be that way right now."
