Avril Lavigne

Recently engaged singer Avril Lavigne has one of the best conspiracy theories of all time, and even has a Wikipedia page. The conspiracy has turned into somewhat of an urban legend and can be traced back to the 2011 Brazilian blog “Avril Está Morta” (“Avril is Dead”). According to the theory, Lavigne died in 2003, shortly after the release of her successful debut studio album, Let Go, and her people hired a body double named Melissa Vandella to keep her career going. Internet forums went wild with the theory, finding evidence that supported the theory, like changes in her appearances, and a “photo shoot” where she has the name ”Melissa“ written on her hand. The conspiracy theory gets brought up every few years, most recently going viral on Twitter in 2017. There is another version of the theory that Lavigne simply didn’t want to be famous anymore and hired Melissa to be her body double. Lavigne eventually addressed the conspiracy telling Entertainment Weekly, “it’s just a dumb internet rumor, and [I’m] flabbergasted that people bought into it. Isn’t that so weird? It’s so dumb. And I look the exact same. On one hand, everyone is like, ‘Oh my god, you look the same,’ and on the other hand people are like ‘Oh my god, she died.’

Tupac Shakur faked his death

There are several conspiracies surrounding Tupac Shakur’s death but one of the most prevalent is that he faked his own death and then moved out of the country. The rapper was murdered on September 7, 1996, in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada when he was just 25 years old. He was shot four times and died from his wounds after spending six days in the hospital. One of the pieces of “evidence” theorists use is the date on the last photo taken of Tupac and Suge Knight which reads September 8, 1996, the day after he was admitted to the hospital. There is also a video interview of Shakur’s mother Afeni who said he was tired of fighting and “being vilified” and in the end, “he chose to leave quietly.” There are many different variations of the conspiracy and tons of ”clues“ that can make you go down a rabbit hole for hours.

Keanu Reeves is immortal

“Does Keanu Reeves age?” Is Googled so many times it comes up as a suggested question. There is a website dedicated to the conspiracy called Keanu Is Immortal that includes “confirmed” identities he held through time dating back to Charlemagne (748-814), followed by Paul Mounet (1847-1922). In 2017 Reeves told Jimmy Fallon he saw a resemblance to Mounet but did not confirm or deny if he was immortal. “I can see we have a resemblance in the eyes, and the nose, and the mustache, and the beard, and the cheekbones, and the forehead,” he quipped.

Beyoncé is Solange’s mom

This theory goes back to 2013 and resurfaces every few years. It’s a long conspiracy, but in summary, it’s believed that Beyoncé was actually born in 1974 and not in 198 and the ridiculous theory is that she gave birth to Solange when she was 12 or 13, and her parents Mathew and Tina raised her as their daughter.

Katy Perry is JonBenet Ramsey

This conspiracy is a bit insensitive to the JonBenet Ramsey family, but the idea is that the JonBenet was not murdered in 1996, and she actually grew up to be multi-platinum recording artist Katy Perry. The conspiracy goes back to 2016 and they use Perry’s lyrics, tweets, and music videos as proof, as well as a physical resemblance between Perry and Ramsey’s parents, per Billboard. Perry is six years older than JonBenet, but that doesn’t stop the conspiracists. While hosting the MTC VMA’s Billy Eichner one of Perry’s prerecorded videos was the comedian asking her questions before he says, “Blink twice if you’re actually JonBenet Ramsey.” The singer responded with a giggle, “um wait, no, that is not real.“
