The GRAMMYs may be the biggest night in music, but there’s another element that’s associated with the ceremony: some seriously unforgettable outfits.
From Lady Gaga to Cee Lo Green, everyone from fashion’s usual risktakers to newcomers try to make an impression on viewers at the ceremony, walking the red carpet in looks that will be remembered from years to come.
As we gear up for this year’s ceremony on April 3, check out some of the most insane, unforgettable looks from past GRAMMYs ceremonies.
Girl Crush
In 2017, artist Girl Crush wore a two-piece hot pink dress featuring a skirt covered in plastic rainbow balls, which you’ve probably seen before in children’s ball pits at a fast foot restaurant near you.
Cee Lo Green
The 2017 GRAMMYs featured a show-stopping look from none other than Cee Lo Green, who always knows how to cause a scene. The all-gold ensemble was part of the musician’s new alter-ego, Gnarly Davidson.
Nicki Minaj
At the 2012 GRAMMYs, Nicki Minaj wore a scarlet Versace cloak accessorized with matching gloves, even walking the red carpet with a pope impersonator.
Bobby Porter
It’s impossible not to notice Bobby Porter on any red carpet, especially in this outfit from 2020. Luckily, if he did want some privacy, he had the ability to close the lampshade-like tassels on his hat.
Lady Gaga
It wouldn’t be a list of the most memorable GRAMMYs looks without an entry from Lady Gaga. Her 2010 look is one of fans’ favorites, with her futuristic look resembling an entire solar system.
Cardi B
Cardi B walked the 2019 GRAMMYs red carpet with her husband Offset, but you’d never know it from most of the pictures. She wore an oyster dress--complete with a pearl on her bellybutton--that stole the show.
Future Man.
At the 2009 GRAMMYs, Future Man showed up in a full pirate outfit--including the hat.
Ricky Rebel
2020 was a year of a lot of political statements at The GRAMMYs, including this look from Ricky Rebel. The former No Authority lead singer also had the words “impeach this” written on his butt.
OK GO
In 2007, the band OK GO wore coordinating suits that resemble your grandma’s curtains. They even covered their faces in masks that helped them perfectly blend into the red carpet.
Bootsy Collins
In 2004, the “I’d Rather Be With You” musician wore a head-to-toe leopard outfit including bell-bottoms, a Persian rug jacket, and a top hat.
