Once again the biggest homage to the fashion industry took place after a year of absence to celebrate the new exhibit at The Costume Institute in New York. This year it pays tribute to America and the diversity among designers and brands that make this country strong and great with “America à Lexicon in Fashion,” curated by Andrew Bolton. The celebrities did their homework and we present you with the most inspirational, classic and best looks below.
Kendall Jenner
The gorgeous model paid tribute to Audrey Hepburn specifically in “My fair Lady” wearing a delicate sheer gown completely embroidered with crystals signed by the French house of Givenchy. She had one of the most gorgeous looks of the evening
Timothée Chalamet
Co-chair of the Met Gala, Chalamet made a big entrance in a divine white suit by one of his favorite designers Haider Ackerman. The actor walked 10 blocks to the Met wearing white Converse shoes- a very American staple- which provoked a moment of hysteria on the streets.
Kaia Gerber
For the occasion, the top model opted for an Oscar de la Renta black strapless dress with a voluminous skirt and appliqués on the bust line. The look recreated a Bianca Jagger moment back in 1981 when she wore a similar dress designed by Halston for the Met Gala. It was a very beautiful reference for the late designer who marked an era in American fashion and she looked beautiful and classy.
Billie Eilish
As co-chair of the Met Gala the singer paid tribute to Marilyn Monroe in a very retro Hollywood look by Oscar de la Renta. She looked as if she was floating on the green carpet in a frothy long trained gown in a peach hue made with silk tulle. It is the first time Eilish has worn a gown and the singer accepted to wear the brand on one condition: that it stop selling fur, which she accomplished.
Gigi Hadid
The supermodel arrived looking gorgeous dressed in a white and black Prada gown paired with arm gloves. She surprised everybody with a new fiery red hair color reminiscent of Rita Hayworth. Classic and beautiful.
Lupita Nyong’o
Looking perfect for the evening the actress chose a fabulous dress by Versace defined by a confluence of denim panels and meticulously beaded detailing. Topped with an amazing hairdo by Vernon François which completed the perfect look.
Jennifer Lopez
The superstar chose one of the most iconic American designers for the Met Gala: Ralph Lauren. She wore an impressive yet daring look with a plunging neckline, feathered trim, a very high slit on the side, and a cowgirl hat. Lopez added two chokers and a leather chunky belt plus super long earrings- proving that more is definitely more. The ultimate accessory? Ben Affleck on her arm.
Karlie Kloss
One of the most beautiful women of the evening, Kloss paid homage to one of America’s best designers: Carolina Herrera. For the Met Gala, Wes Gordon designed a 1980’s dramatic dress especially for her in crimson silk faille by Eurotextil (25 yards). “This work of art was inspired by America’s flower, The Rose. it was an honor to work with Wes Gordon and the Carolina Herrera atelier. this dress feels equal parts iconic and elegant” said Kloss.
Quannah Chasinghorse
The beautiful model was one of the best dressed at the Met Gala this year wearing a liquid gold lamé gown designed by Peter Dundas. She accessorized with authentic Navajo turquoise and silver jewelry that complemented her tattoos. Alaska-based Chasinghorse is a fierce activist for Native American and indigenous issues, a climate warrior, and a land protector- just the kind of leader we should support nowadays.
