The world is screaming happy birthday to Keanu Reeves as the actor celebrates his 57th birthday today, September 2nd. The notoriously shy and mysterious birthday man is one of Hollywood‘s most successful actors. In 2016, The Hollywood Reporter calculated that Reeves had earned $250 million for The Matrix franchise, making him one of the highest-paid in the industry. Over the years, Reeves has starred in countless films, become a meme, started a production company, and wrote 2 books. But despite being in the industry since the 80’s there is still little knowledge about the actor’s private life, which is likely how he likes it. When asked on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2019 about what he thinks happens after death, Reeves replied, “I know that the ones who love us will miss us.” Take a look at some photos of the handsome actor throughout the years and watch one of his movies tonight to celebrate.

Canadian born, Reeves dropped out of High School when he was 17 and pursued acting on stage and in film. He made his feature film debut in Youngblood (1986). A few years later when he was 22 he starred as Ted in the cult classic Bill & Ted‘s Excellent Adventure (1989).

In 1991, Reeves started his alternative rock band Dogstar and he shredded on the bass. That same year he starred in Bill & Ted‘s Bogus Journey, a sequel to Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, with his co-star Alex Winter. From then on he transitioned into more adult roles and began showcasing his impressive abilities.

By 1999 there was no stopping Reeves. After starring in more succesful films like Speed, and The Devils Advocate, the critically acclaimed film turned franchise The Matrix would solidify Reeve’s future as Hollywood royalty.

Reeves never let Hollywood keep him in a box and he explored genres whenever he could like the romantic drama Sweet November (2001) starring Charlize Theron .. His music career officially ended in 2002 but he stayed busy on screen. Following the release of The Matrix Trilogy he was honored with a star on the Hollywood walk of fame in 2005.
