Founded in 1884, Rome, Italy, the brand established a reputation for Italian excellence and the luxury brand has been recognized for its exquisite craftsmanship and creations. If you’ve wondered why the brand is seen as both Bulgari and Bvlgari, the company name is Bulgari, which is the phonetic way the founder‘s name Voulgaris is spelled in Italian, per The Eye of the Jewelry. The reason a V is used in place of a U is that that’s how it is in the Roman alphabet, an ode to how it all started and BVLGARI is only written when referring to the trademarked name and logo.

In an interview with PEOPLE, González said she was surprised by the collaboration because was didn’t see many women who looked like her in jewelry ads. “In the ‘90s, there was a lack of representation around the world, I feel like,” she said. “It was all about showing us an idea of what the ideal woman should be but there wasn’t a lot of shades to that woman, sadly.” González added, “If anyone would have told me back in the day that I was going to become the brand ambassador of Bulgari, I would’ve never believed you.”

A proud immigrant woman, González hopes this accomplishment send a big message. “It sends a loud message — as a Latin woman, to be able to be part of the [Bulgari] family in this extent, it just shows that there‘s different colors and ethnicities and they’re all beautiful in every way,” she told PEOPLE. ”Especially being an immigrant woman, to be part of the brand in North America, sends a loud message.”
