Inside Barack Obama’s College Apartment in New York City

and its surprisingly low price

DECEMBER 2, 2020 12:38 PM EST

Can you image where Barack Obama lived in college, before making it to the White House? Take a look at this New York apartment where the former president lived with a few of his closest friends. The apartment, located in the Morningside Heights section of Manhattan, near Columbia University, is now listed for sale for $1.45 million. Obama majored in political science in Columbia in the early 1980s. Since Obama has lived in the building it has been fully renovated and converted into a 39-unit co-op building. So, while maybe it doesn’t look like it did when Obama was studying, sleeping and even partying, it’s still pretty neat to think this is where he lived just a few decades ago.

How much will these apartments be going for?

Almost $1.5 million, and believe it or not, thats about the same price as it was five years ago. Real estate agents point out that the price has not increased mainly because of the damaging effects of COVID 19. But still, the firm is happy with the price and thinks it is fair.

Everyone wants a windowed eat-in kitchen in New York City!

No, this is not what Obama’s college kitchen looked like, we can assure you that much. His long nights with pizza and bear were not in this luxurious kitchen. But hey, who doesn’t love these white cabinets, high-end appliances and full size washer and dryer. And the window? I’m sure loving it.

The lobby of the building.

“This building dates back to 1907 and was designed by the celebrated architects Schwartz and Gross, which will appeal to many buyers who are looking for solid prewar construction,” says a real estate agent at the NYC firm.

Two of the bedrooms share a bath with a soaking tub and the renovations include custom closets in each bedroom.

Being a co-op building, the prospective buyer pool can be somewhat limited, making the pricing even more adecuate.
