Bibbidi bobbidi boo! Camila Cabello is stepping into iconic glass slippers for her acting debut. The 23-year-old superstar is set to lead a reimagining of the classic fairy tale Cinderella by Sony. While many details are locked away high in a castle somewhere, we do know tons of exhilarating facts about the upcoming musical comedy. Call us your fairy godparent and scroll on through, because we’re about to hold you over until the clock strikes midnight in 2021!
No villains allowed
Most recently, Camila Cabello teased fans with a sneak peek from the set of the new film. “I love this film so much,” she wrote along with a repost from writer-director Kay Cannon. The photo shows Camila in an enchanting looking forest, flanked by Kay and co-star Idina Menzel, who plays her stepmother. And while the costumes are fairly hidden by coats, you can peep the performer’s magical hairstyles. “Revelling the time I have left shooting w/ Cinders, @camila_cabello & her NOT evil stepmother, @idinamenzel,” the director captioned. She then added a surprising, parenthetical tidbit: “(there are no villains in this movie. ❤️).”
On location
Principal photography began in February 2020 in the UK. Filming was unfortunately suspended in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production was able to safely resume in August of 2020.
Into the woods
“I’m just tryna make friends with baby deer,” Camila captioned this photo back in August, “back in the UK, finishing Cinderella !!!! i love this movie, so proud to be a part of it already, can’t wait for u to see.”
A dream is a wish...
Camila, who will be the first Hispanic person to portray the part, has said taking on the radiant role is “honestly a dream for me.” She told ET: “I want to be a Disney princess... I read the script and was like I need to this.”
“I’m really happy that we’re at a point now in culture where little girls can see themselves being represented,” she added. “It’s about time.”
Star power
Self-proclaimed musical theatre nerd James Corden will not only have a role in the film (as a footman/ mouse), but came up with the original story idea and will serve as a producer.
Three amigos
The two Stepsisters are Maddie Baillio (Hairspray Live!) and Charlotte Spencer (The Living and the Dead). Prince Robert a.k.a Prince Charming will be played by Nicholas Galitzine (left).
“I can’t wait for you to see Cinderella! I’m OVERJOYED with what we have created and feel so blessed to be a part of it,” Maddie wrote along with this on-set snap.
Musical Queens
Maddie also shared this sweet photo from production with Broadway icon Idina Menzel, who (as previously stated) will play the Stepmother.
