Country star dies, Britney Spears and Taylor Swift hit us one more time and more trending celebrity news

Daily updates on how the coronavirus is impacting the worlds of entertainment and royalty

UPDATED APRIL 8, 2020 2:17 PM EDT

YAAAAS Dr. Queen! A pageant winner just decided to hang up her crown to return to work as a doctor because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Yes, it’s true – royal minds do think alike. Kate Middleton and Sweden’s future queen just twinned while WFHP (working from home at their palaces.)

A lot of celebrities are giving themselves some wild haircuts while on lockdown. We’ve gathered up some of the best (and worst!).

Anna Wintour’s ICU doctor son is self-quarantining after falling ill. The Vogue editor-in-chief shared the news about Dr Charles Shaffer, 35, in a video for the new Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) series A Common Thread. “My son is a doctor. He is currently quite ill and self-quarantining at home, away from his wife and his two small daughters,” the fashion icon,  famed for always wearing sunglasses , revealed. “But when he is able, he will return to the ICU at his local hospital. I am so proud of him and so grateful to all the health workers, first responders, nurses and doctors, who are fighting to reduce the spread of the virus and to save lives.”

Diamonds are a girl‘s best friend – even during a pandemic. Renowned jewelers Tiffany & Co, immortalized in the  Audrey Hepburn  classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s, will be donating a total of $1million in the battle against coronavirus. A big chunk, $750,000, is going to the World Health Organization’s Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund and $250,000 is headed to The New York Community Trust’s NYC Covid-19 Response & Impact Fund.

Naomi Campbell is self-isolating in style. The supermodel revealed she has vintage kaftans once owned by Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor and she’s wearing them just for fun. “At night, to give a little change, I wear caftans. I‘ve got some really great ones,” she told instyle.com. “I may dress up for something here and there.”

Celebrity wedding watch:  Jennifer Lopez just gave an update on her delayed nuptials with A-Rod.

Thought you were running out of things to do during self-isolation?  Maluma is so bored that he has given out his phone number.

Country and folk icon John Prine, 73, died on Tuesday from complications of the coronavirus

Country music star John Prine has died at 73, nearly three weeks after testing positive for COVID-19. The Grammy winner wrote songs such as Hello In There, Sam Stone and Paradise, and his own acclaimed albums including Bruised Orange and Aimless Love.

Miranda Lambert was among the fellow music stars, including Kacey Musgraves, Mandy Moore and Seth Meyers, who paid tribute to the folk and country icon. Miranda shared a photo of herself with John with the note: “Thank you for everything. One and only. #hellointhere #johnprine.” Bruce Springsteen remembered the country star as a “songwriter for the ages” and the “loveliest guy in the world”, while Toby Keith wrote: ”The great John Prine has passed away from the virus. He showed me how to ‘let it rip’ when it comes to songwriting. There’s a huge hole in the music world tonight. John did it best. RIP.”

Taylor Swift gave a fan $3,000 on April Fools Day – but it was no joke! Struggling college student Jess Buslewicz told MAGIC 106.7 that the megastar, who follows her on Tumblr, sent her $3,000 after she posted that she “was very anxious about the times that were to come.” “I was sitting on the couch and I got a PayPal notification that there was $3,000 in my account,” Jess recalled, adding: There’s a little message with it and at the end she said, ’PS – it may be April 1st but this is not an April Fools joke!’”

Britney Spears found a hilarious way to encourage her fans to self-isolate. The star shared an illustration by Patricia Urritia on social media that shows Brit in her schoolgirl costume from the video for Baby One More Time, wielding a bottle of hand sanitizer. The sketch then changes the lyrics of the hit tune from “My loneliness is killing me” to “My loneliness is SAVING ME!”
