Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé and Pau Gasol were some of the popular faces who wanted to say goodbye to basketball star Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna during the emotional memorial at the Staples Center
Thousands of fans, friends and popular faces attended the emotional memorial for Kobe Bryant at the Staples Center on February, 24. They all wanted to give a special farewell to the basketball legend, his daughter Gianna, and the seven other victims of the fatal helicopter crash that finished with their lifes. One of the most affected stars was Jennifer Lopez - a very close friend of the Bryants - who was moved to tears during Vanessa’s heartbreaking speech. Beyoncé, who was seated by her side, offered comfort in the form of a gentle hand on her shoulder while Vanessa fought to hold back her tears. But there were more stars visibly moved by the tragedy who wanted to show support to Kobe’s family.

Jennifer Lopez and her fiancé Alex Rodriguez arrived together to the Staples Center. The couple were extremely close to the the Bryants “We met as teenagers. We followed similar paths. We went from high school to the pros and our baby girls grew up together,” he shared on his social media, “People don't know this, but he was my secret coach. He pushed me and motivated me, especially toward the end of my career when I needed him most. He was always there. Even after our playing days, he was there for me.”

The Bronx diva was absolutely devastated and couldn’t hide her emotions during the ceremony. “We are all feeling sadness from this loss, but all I can think of is that it is a grain of sand compared to what Vanessa must going through right now,” she said in a beautiful post dedicated to the widow.

Beyoncé performed Kobe’s favorite song, XO onstage, but Beyoncé also showed a sweet tribute on her site with an original nair art with Kobe and Gianna’s names and wearing the iconic Lakers shirt.

In one of the most heartbreaking moments of the ceremony, Queen Bey gently held Vanessa’s wrist to show her love and support.
Pau Gasol
Twelve years ago, the Spanish basketball star played with Kobe as part of the LA Lakers team. “We will be here for them not only now but forever,” he said, referring to Vanessa and her daughters.

The singer took the stage to play the Moonlight sonata by Beethoven on the piano, Kobe’s favorite classical music piece.

The power couple was joined by Kris Jenner and Khloé Kardashian. All dressed in somber black, the clan showed their respects to the family.

“Maybe it surprised people that Kobe and I were very close friends,” the basketball player explained during his moving speech, “but we were very close friends. Kobe was my dear friend. He was like a little brother. Everyone always wanted to talk about the comparisons between he and I. I just wanted to talk about Kobe.”
