Celebrities are just like us mere mortals and often have to battle with skin issues. And one of the most common problems is acne. Thankfully the stars are happy to share how they’ve managed to overcome this condition, so keep reading for top tricks for getting rid of those pesky spots!
Kendall Jenner
Starting with Kendall Jenner who has frequently mentioned her issues with oily skin when she was younger. She wrote a blog post on her website detailing that: “It completely ruined my self esteem. I wouldn't even look at people when I talked to them. I felt like such an outcast; when I spoke, it was with my hand covering my face.”
Luckily she got over that stage in her life and has written on social media: “never let that sh*t stop you!” Nowadays she’s one of the best paid models in the world, and according to Refinery 29, thanks to the help of her dermatologist and a Laser Genesis treatment that cost around $500, her skin started clearing up and her self esteem grew.
Zendaya
Zendaya has admitted to having delicate skin in the past: “my hormonal breakouts popping up every month unwelcome, just when I think I got my skin on lock.” She told Twist that she has suffered with acne not just on her face but on her chest and back too and that her mom advised her to never touch the spots to avoid them worsening.

To clear up imperfections in her skin, Eva Longoria told our sister publication HELLO! that hydration is key. In fact her biggest beauty secret is moisturizing cream. Additionally, she said that she always wears blush to give her skin that special glow.
Emma Stone
Emma Stone told Refiney 29 about how she suffered from hormonal acne when she was 17. "I realized how debilitating and embarrassing it can be to have cystic acne," she admitted. Her experience made her realize the importance of caring for your skin from an early age. Her top tips are using Cetaphil soap, tea tree oil, special pads she gets from her dermatologist and has even used cortisal shots to help clear-up break-outs.
Cameron Diaz
For Cameron Diaz the key was in her diet. In her tome The Body Book she explains that her skin was a complete disaster. “Sometimes on a Friday-night drive-through run, I would order a double cheeseburger with french fries and onion rings. Once I cut out the junk, I saw such a major difference that I felt like an idiot. It not only cleared up my acne, but it also gave me this huge amount of energy,” she reveals. Of course, her problem didn’t disappear completely but it improved considerably.
Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman, winner of an Oscar for her role in Black Swan, told The Cut that she became vegan – cutting out meat, dairy products and eggs. This radical change helped improve the health of her skin massively.
Victoria Beckham
Victoria Beckham has also suffered from skin problems. In an interview with Elle, she mentioned that she loves Dr. Lancer products, which she first discovered in the US. "I swear by Dr Lancer products. He's a dermatologist that I met in Los Angeles. I started going to him for oxygen facials, and I haven't looked back. I don't really use products other than his. I keep it quite simple with a really good polish, then an exfoliating cleanse, then I use a nourish cream, which is a really beautiful moisturiser." Her favorite skin specialist also recommened that she include salmon in her daily diet, as well as limiting caffeine and alcohol.
Rihanna
The singer has also suffered from blemished skin. “I have an ugly day every month; pimples on my face, I’m fat and in a bad mood. It’s more like an ugly week,” she told Star. And her solution is to drink a ton of water. She talked to Cosmopolitan about how she no longer drinks alcohol and instead has upped her water intake. And she unveiled an extra beauty tip: “Use a shiny lip pencil to distract from any skin problems.”
Miley Cyrus
In an interview with The Cut, Miley Cyrus explained that she had lots of skin problems when she was a teenager. She revealed that she left it up to the professionals to fix after attempting to use products made it worse. “I had kind of bad skin when I was younger and that was always my insecurity, especially being on TV… You think that's the only thing people can see… You get out of control, you start reaching for whatever and you end up messing up your face. Let professionals do it and don't start getting in there and giving yourself scars.”
Chloë Grace Moretz
Young actress Chloë Grace Moretz struggled with cystic acne during her adolescence. She revealed to Allure magazine that she uses Accutane to help clear her skin up. “I dealt with really bad cystic acne growing up. I tried changing my diet and my beauty products before going on Accutane. [Having acne problems] was a long, hard, emotional process.” This medicine is composed of isotretinoina and needs a doctor’s prescription as it’s usually only used to treat really serious cases of acne.
