The 2020 Oscars nominations were released on Monday morning and in true Oscars fashion, there were major surprises and snubs in the categories. For one, our girl Jennifer Lopez was left out of the Best Supporting Actress category, which brought all of her fans tweeting for justice . Meanwhile, this year saw a male-dominated list once again in the Best Director category leaving out Greta Gerwig (Little Women), Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers) and Lulu Wang (The Farewell).

The Cuban actress, who was nominated for Best Supporting Acress at this year’s Golden Globes, was left out of the Oscars race for her role in Knives Out.
One of the biggest snubs was Jennifer Lopez for her critically-acclaimed role in Hustlers. The 50-year-old was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards, but was left out of the competition for the Academy Awards. Not only was her performance snubbed, the film was also left out of the nominations.
Like so many years before, the Best Director category features an all male list of nominees, which is infuriating seeing as Greta Gerwig directed the classic remake of Little Women this year that was praised by critics ahead of awards season. The film got other nods, including Best Supporting Actress (Florence Pugh), Best Actress (Saoirse Ronan), Best Costume Design (Jacqueline Durran), Best Original Score (Alexandre Desplat) and Best Picture. Although Greta was left out of the director’s category, she got a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
The Oscars gave no love to the Elton John biopic. Costume designers were left out as well as Taron Egerton, who won best actor at this year’s Golden Globes.
Another leading lady director that got snubbed this awards season was Queen & Slim director Melina Matsoukas. She was left out of the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild Awards and most recently, the 2020 Oscars nominations.
