Marc Anthony, Daddy Yankee and more stars speak out after the 6.4 magnitude earthquake

On Tuesday, January 7, Puerto Rico suffered a massive earthquake with a 6.4 magnitude. Until now, authorities have reported one person was killed. According to reports, the earthquake struck at 4:24 a.m. local time with an epicenter 13 kilometers from the city of Ponce and a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Earthquake in Puerto Rico

Within the last two weeks, hundreds of small earthquakes were reported in the same zone. Last Monday, another earthquake occurred south of the island. The 5.8 magnitude quake cause damage in the Guanica and Guayanilla communities.

Dozens of celebrities have come together to support Puerto Ricans and have sent heartfelt messages and prayers via social media as well as shared security measures and helplines.

The Vivir Mi Vida singer took to social media where he as more than 10 million followers, to share a photo of the Puerto Rico flag and wrote, “Puerto Rico, praying for you. May God bless you.” Although Marc Anthony was born in New York, he's very proud of his Puerto Rican roots.

The singer, who hails from San Juan, Puerto Rico, shared a message on his social media account addressed to fellow Puerto Ricans, and asked them to be attentive. “Worried for my island,” he wrote.

Daddy Yankee shared this photo on his social account and asked his followers to unite in prayer for the good of the island. Powerful image. Prayer is always the answer. The Travesuras singer shared a helpful image for those who were affected by the earthquake. Nicky Jam captioned the pic with, “Puerto Rico, God is with us. We won’t stop praying.”

The telenovelas actor also joined in prayer for Puerto Rico and victims from the earthquake. Julián Gil wrote, “Strength #earthquake, #puertorico #island #borinquen.”

Residente was in Puerto Rico when the earthquake occurred and recorded a video in which he expressed his feelings. “All lights went out, electricity. I’m still nervous. This is the fourth earthquake that occurs in less than a day. As long as one stays in contact with boricuas, so we can communicate via social media.”

René Pérez also asked people who live in earthquake zones to send them words of encouragement as well as advice for dealing with these kinds of emergencies. “To those who live in other countries and have more experience with these type of situations, send us tips, send us advice. I hope everyone in Puerto Rico is okay.”

Karla Monroig and Tommy Torres sent Puerto Ricans support messages and they shared information on how to help as well as emergency phone numbers. Karla is originally from Guayama, meanwhile Tommy is from San Juan.
