Marc Anthony, Luis Fonsi and more come together in wake of Puerto Rico’s devastating earthquake

Within the last two weeks, hundreds of small earthquakes were reported in the same zone. Last Monday, another earthquake occurred south of the island. The 5.8 magnitude quake cause damage in the Guanica and Guayanilla communities.

Dozens of celebrities have come together to support Puerto Ricans and have sent heartfelt messages and prayers via social media as well as shared security measures and helplines.

This image features the Parroquia of Concepción in Guayanilla, which was destroyed after the strong earthquake.

The Vivir Mi Vida singer took to social media where he as more than 10 million followers, to share a photo of the Puerto Rico flag and wrote, “Puerto Rico, praying for you. May God bless you.” Although Marc Anthony was born in New York, he's very proud of his Puerto Rican roots.

The singer, who hails from San Juan, Puerto Rico, shared a message on his social media account addressed to fellow Puerto Ricans, and asked them to be attentive. “Worried for my island,” he wrote.

Daddy Yankee shared this photo on his social account and asked his followers to unite in prayer for the good of the island. Powerful image. Prayer is always the answer. Humbling ourselves before the Lord gives us peace, gives us hope and gives us strength before the test. I join in chain with my family. AMEN,” he wrote.

The Travesuras singer shared a helpful image for those who were affected by the earthquake. Nicky Jam captioned the pic with, “Puerto Rico, God is with us. We won’t stop praying.”

The telenovelas actor also joined in prayer for Puerto Rico and victims from the earthquake. Julián Gil wrote, “Strength #earthquake, #puertorico #island #borinquen.”

Residente was in Puerto Rico when the earthquake occurred and recorded a video in which he expressed his feelings. “All lights went out, electricity. I’m still nervous. This is the fourth earthquake that occurs in less than a day. As long as one stays in contact with boricuas, so we can communicate via social media.”

René Pérez also asked people who live in earthquake zones to send them words of encouragement as well as advice for dealing with these kinds of emergencies. “To those who live in other countries and have more experience with these type of situations, send us tips, send us advice. I hope everyone in Puerto Rico is okay.”

Karla Monroig and Tommy Torres sent Puerto Ricans support messages and they shared information on how to help as well as emergency phone numbers. Karla is originally from Guayama, meanwhile Tommy is from San Juan.

Bárbara Bermudo posted an image in which she asked for prayers and good vibes for the island: “Puerto Rico you’re in my prayers! A strong earthquake and its aftershocks rocked Puerto Rico firing a state of emergency after causing landslides and at least one death in the island, informed local authorities.”

Television host Jaime Mayol shared a map via social media showing where there’s been an earthquake in Puerto Rico. “This is serious family, I don’t think Puerto Rico has had an seismic activity of this magnitude in its history. May God protect us! The families in the southwest of the island are in my prayers.”

María CelesMaría Celeste Arrarás shared a message on her social media account about the situation in her native Puerto Rico, and expressed she is heartbroken. “We woke up to his news! During the day our correspondents are touring the island and this afternoon on Al Rojo Vivo we’ll be reporting everything about the damages and about what’s happening. Today’s are the most recent of the succession of earthquakes hitting the island in recent weeks.”

La cantanteSinger Olga Tañon shared a message to bring consciousness about the natural phenomenons that are occurring around the world and asked for unison in prayer and to help those affected. “Puerto Rico needs prayer and the entire world! What’s happening is serious and we have to unite either way. My God, these earthquakes, fires or extreme rains. We must pray and act because it’s getting late. Mother earth roars.”

Kany García was another celeb who joined in prayer and petitions for support. The singer shared images that could be helpful for people who live in areas where there’s been an earthquake in Puerto Rico.

Jackie GuerridoPrimer Impacto (Univision) journalist, Jackie Guerrido, shared some images of the devastating earthquake, as well as words that reflected the sadness she feels for what’s happening in her country.

“A strong earthquake of a 6.4 magnitude shakes Puerto Rico this 4 am. And leaves the island in the darkness. Authorities have confirmed the death of at least one person in the south city of Ponce, a man whose wall from his house fell on him. I feel great pain to see this reality. I ask of your prayers for my beautiful island. May God protect us and deliver us from danger.”
