MAY 18, 2020 8:36 AM EDT

For as long as I could remember, nail art has always been a way to express yourself. From choosing the perfect hues for the season to exploring creative designs, there’s just something special about having a fresh manicure. With extending restrictions on salons, we’re turning to the next best trend — press-on nails. That’s right, they’re back and better than ever. Celebrities such as  Jennifer Lopez  and  Cardi B  swear by this manicure method for major Hollywood moments. It’s safe to say we’re following their lead and pressing on with this DIY-manicure alternative. As you look down at your quarantine nails, know you can still feel fresh and fabulous with the right press-on nails, tips and tricks. No matter the preference, we’ve got you covered on providing you with the ultimate press-on nails technique cheat sheet. Celebrity nail artist Naomi Yasuda, whose clientele includes stars like Madonna,  Lady Gaga  and Celine Dion has given us the best how-to steps on curating the prettiest nails that’ll have you feeling like a professional at any level.

Alcohol Advantage

If there is any dirt, dust or oil on the nail, the sticky tab won’t adhere to the nails well. There is an alcohol wipe included in the SinfulColors CLAWS kit along with sticky tabs in different sizes so you can choose the ones that fit your nail shape the best – it’s super convenient! Doing a quick swipe using the alcohol wipe before applying the sticky tab will ensure it adheres to the nail and stays on for a long-lasting manicure.

Angle & Adjust

You should apply press-ons from the cuticle. First, you need to find the nail tip that best fits your nail bed. Keep in mind, you can also file it to adjust the size. Next, place the back of the nail tip near your cuticle line, making sure your cuticle and curvature of the press-on are lined up perfectly. Then, press the nail tip down for a few seconds. There are multiple sizes included in the kit, so almost anyone can find the nail tip that works best for them! I also recommend choosing a sticky tab that covers the entire nail bed to ensure the nail tip is super secure.

No Glue

You can use nail glue to apply the press-ons, however, if you use glue there is a chance it will cause damage to your nails during removal. The sticky tabs within the SinfulColors CLAWS kit are very strong, enough to leave you with a long-lasting manicure. What’s even better about the sticky tabs is that you can reuse the nail tips if you use the tabs versus glue. If one nail falls off, you also have so many more to replace it with. The brand has a variety of nail art selection tips to take your mani to the next level. Since Naomi worked with SinfulColors to create a line of press-on’s herself, we’re trusting her when it comes to having the chicest nail art out there. Explore, enjoy and have fun with curated designs from singers such as Bebe Rexha.

Remove Process

If you use a sticky tab, add cuticle oil or alcohol between your nail and the press-on. The nail tip will slide right off! If you use nail glue, you need to soak it off with acetone.

Daily Routine

When washing your hands and using lotion, make sure no water gets in between your nails and the tips. If water does get inside, the celeb nail artist recommends re-applying the tips. Finding the correct sizes for the sticky tab and nail tips will ensure that no liquid or moisturizer gets in-between the nail and the tab.
