Revealed: the best place to apply highlighter...

The makeup artist told Glamour that you can put as much shine as you like on either side of your face, but don’t go to far down into your cheeks. “Keep your glowy products more on the outside because it’ll change the whole dynamic of your face,” he advised.

... and where to avoid it

Sir John also insists that your highlighter “should never go between your eyes. You should never have anything shiny on the high part of your cheeks, your chin or the tip of your nose. It’s a bad idea.” He also recommends that you keep your forehead free of shine, since the center of the face should be free of fuss for a better appearance.

A touch of blush

A top trick that the makeup expert uses for Beyoncé’s shows, which helps the light reflect off her face, is apply a bit of peach-colored blush on the middle of her cheeks.

Our handy tips: 1) It’s all about the tone

Highlighters usually come in golden, silver or pearly tones. However to ensure the product doesn’t inadvertently put focus on any imperfections you may have or look unnatural, it’s always best to go for a tone that works best with your skin color.

2) Match your skin undertone

If you have paler skin, cooler tones like silver or rose gold will work best. Darker skin tones looks fantastic with golden hues for that super star glow.
