Being a celebrity brings fame but also many hours in the beauty salon, working to achieve that perfect beauty look. But beyond products that highlight natural beauty, there are many tricks that woman can use themselves. Luckily, celebrity makeup artists have been letting us in to some of the advice they given their famous clients and that you should take into account when doing your makeup:

Prepare your skin

Let’s start with the preparation of our “canvas”. If you want to make your skin look brighter by putting on a base layer, before applying it, mix it with a few drop of facial oil, like Lili Reinhart. In her case, she mixes argan oil into her base foundation to create a glowy effect that stands out in front of the cameras. She learned this from her professional makeup prep sessions on set, as she told Bird.

Your fingers are the best tool for applying makeup

Which tool to use for applying your base makeup is a widely debated topic: whether a sponge to give you a more smooth finish or brushes to help you save more product. The arguments are many and varied. However, according to Hailey Baldwin, putting on your foundation with your fingertips leaves the best and most natural looking finish on your skin. And we’ve found out why – the heat from your skin warms up the makeup. The same thing occurs with lotions and creams which absorb best when massaged into the palms of your hands before. A trick learned from the hands of makeup artists.

Less powder, more glow

Another trick that celebrities adopt to avoid weathering their skin is to apply very little powder. This is the trick Jennifer Lopez uses. The actress and singer ensures that her skin is as hydrated as possible, so she uses a minimum amount of powder to seal her makeup, just before heading into the spotlight.

Lip Liner

To make your lips stand out, the key is lip liner, agrees makeup artist, Patrick Ta, celebrity makeup artist to stars and top models. He draws only in the central zone of both the upper and bottom lip and both corners, respecting the original form of the lips, without modifying them too much. He applies this method to all of his clients – among them Camila Cabello – and you really do notice the difference, comments model Taylor Hill.

Use a cigarette lighter to improve your makeup

Although cosmetics technology is always advancing, this is a trick we all learned in high school and is also loved by pro makeup artists. So don’t forget to have a match or lighter to hand, because you can use it to warm up the tip of your eyeliner, lip liner, and even your eyelash curler. This way, your makeup pencils and liners will become more easy-to-use and pigmented, with a creamier texture. But it is also a way of “disinfecting your makeup.” And this is what we learned from model Karlie Kloss.

When using tools to curl your lashes, and making the curl last longer, put a flame over the metallic curler a couple of times. Then check to see it’s not too hot and start to curl your eyelashes for 10 to 15 seconds.

A bit of knack and artistic touch

Before becoming a celebrity makeup artist, Hugh Vango had to take advantage of good low-cost cosmetics. And he has confessed on social media and to different publications that those years left him with one great aim: to beautify the face without using expensive beauty products. By going back to basics: washing, hydrating and looking after your skin, and with a bit of skill and a few tricks when applying makeup. Start with these secrets and you will definitely notice the difference.
