PHILIPPA FORRESTER
tells us of her pregnancy and the dramatic turn her life has taken

Philippa Forrester is expecting her first child on her birthday on September 20, yet strangely she seems more concerned by the condition of a heavily pregnant giraffe called Biffa. “She was due in April and still hasn’t given birth,” says Philippa. “I’m on call day and night and we’ve had a camera crew on virtual standby for months.”

By the time Making Animal Babies is broadcast over the New Year, Philippa will be a mother herself. She and her partner Charles Hamilton James, a wildlife cameraman for the BBC, don’t know if their baby will be a boy or a girl. “We want a nice surprise,” she says. “I always wanted a girl, but I don’t mind now.”

It’s a surprise to Philippa, 31, that her life has taken such a dramatic turn. Little over a year ago, the Tomorrow’s World presenter insisted that she wasn’t ready for a relationship, let alone becoming a mother. The father of her child, Charlie, who is a few years younger than Philippa and who she describes as “tall, dark and handsome”, is relatively new in her life. “We got together filming otters in Skye. We were up all night in the middle of winter on a boat waiting for otters and we just talked and talked - which is probably why no otters turned up. I had 17 layers on and we looked like Michelin men, but it worked. It was pretty instant after that. We have so much in common and I think of him as my soul buddy.”

For more revelations about Philippa’s pregnancy, the new issue of HELLO! is on sale now.
