James Gaddas - the construction-site Romeo of Coronation Street -
has a new leading lady in his arms. As Vinny Sorrell, he’s still very much
an item with Natalie Barnes, landlady of the Rovers Return. In real life James
shares a marriage with ballet dancer Deborah. But it’s clear Cate Olivia,
his ten-week-old baby daughter, is the girl on his mind.
And, with an arrival like Cate’s, a month early and within three hours of
Deborah’s first contraction, it’s not surprising that she’s
proved such a hit.

“We found out afterwards that Deb’s mum had only had a two-hour
labour,” recalls the former classical RSC actor. “I was expecting a
two-day marathon. But Cate came so fast that I didn’t have time to act the
pacing, expectant father.”
But James did do what comes naturally to first-time fathers. “I blubbed.
You can’t believe you’d fall in love with anyone so quickly. Then I
counted her fingers and toes and realised how big her feet were!” For more
