Lauren Booth woke up at 3am on her wedding day. It wasn’t a bad case
of bridal jitters that disturbed her pre-marital slumbers, but a phone call to
say the car to take her from her suite at London’s Langham Hilton to BBC
Radio’s London Live offices would arrive at 4am. Just hours before she
exchanged vows with her long-time love Craig Darby, Lauren took to the airwaves
for her regular Saturday morning show.
“Doing the show helped get rid of a lot of the nervous energy I had,”
said Lauren after the service. “As an actor and member of the Booth
family, nothing gets in the way. The show must go on.”
Wearing an elegant “princess” dress designed by Elizabeth Emanuel,
Lauren walked up the aisle to the strains of a Jimi Hendrix track, Foxy
Lady, one of Craig’s favourite songs. The 32-year-old blonde asked her
83-year-old grandfather Sidney Riley to give her away, in recognition of all
his support during her turbulent childhood, while her mother and father looked
on proudly from the congregation. “It was fantastic to give Lauren away
because I’ve been her father and grandfather. Knowing that both she and
Craig wanted me to be part of their day made me feel very proud.” |

Lauren and Craig have known each other
for 13 years. “I’m glad they got round to
marrying,” said Lauren’s father Tony,
“because they’ve had a good
dress rehearsal!” |
