Her formation as a designer began at the Art Institude of Fort Lauderdale, later expanding at Parsons School of Design in New York. Despite her education abroad, Johanna imbues her designs with her own personal style, figures, and colors, which are firmly rooted in her heritage, and which honor her country’s landscapes and regions.

We’re celebrating our roots, rescuing the beauty of our artisanship and our ancestral techniques, drawing inspiration from the warm spirit of our people.”

The designer has revealed to ¡HOLA! Américas that aside from celebrating the roots and her country’s ancestral roots, it’s very important for her to have designs that are mindful of sustainability and the environment. Her company works alongside providers and artisans that prioritize development in Colombia.

It’s been years since the Johanna Ortiz brand was based in small stores. Nowadays, the brand has a global reach, with her staple piece, the top model Tulum, which production has grown from 4 thousand to 50 thousand pieces.

Johanna is an example of commitment and empowerment. Thanks to her incredibly eye and intelligence, she became the first Latina to have a collaboration with the global brand H&M. As a mother of three, she’s managed to break glass ceilings, highlighting that Latino talent is capable of entering and disrupting European fashion houses.
